Description
Through the panes of bay window, I have a clear view of the little American goldfinches that indulge themselves on succulent sunflower seeds in my flower garden. Fortunately, for them, this bountiful sunflower plant yielded sixteen blooms and has provided a fanciful feast for the tiny little birds for several weeks.
Next year, I am planting ten or more sunflower plants because I love the watch the goldfinches: tiny flittering of yellow among the blossoms.
Usually, they land in pairs: a male and female. Sometimes, a small group stops in but that results in squabbling and raised feathers so the interlopers are chased off to dine on the Zinnias.
Therefore, until the last sunflower blossom fades and drops from the stalk, I am going to keep my camera ready to capture images of the finches with their discriminating taste for sunflower seeds.
