I had been away from so long that I had almost forgotten how beautiful my old hometown was in the springtime. It was glorious to see it once again, riding along the zigzagging roads on a Sunday afternoon with a good friend from high school. The state’s flower, the dogwoods, dotted the landscape like magical white bursts of lights throughout the woods, in meadows and in front and back yards. Magenta flowering trees gave off warm radiance of color like lipstick smeared on a watercolor canvas among other hues of forest and kiwi greens, pale yellows, soft blues and trunks and branches of browns.
