Description
The aspen eyes form when the tree “self prunes” by dropping smaller branches that don't receive sufficient sunlight and that leaves a scar on the trunk of the tree. Some of the aspens have multiple eyes on their trunks while others have just a few. Each of the eyes are unique.
The Basque and Peruvian sheep herders use to refer to the eye images as the "Eye of God". Maybe it's all in the eye of the beholder...
Can you imagine walking through the the woods with hundreds of those "eyes" following your every move? Kind of creepy to say the least.
